After researching South American witchcraft and occult history, as well as the persecution of witches that began in the 15th century, I came to realize that this is where modern day stigmas towards witches were born. This thesis project focuses on these stigmas and how they affect modern day witches and their craft. Using photography from Frances F. Denny, as well as various interviews and my own personal experience, I will dive deeper into these stigmas and illustrate how they distort society's view of witches and occultists.
"There will always be someone discriminating against witches because we are viewed as more powerful creatures with control over ourselves. And of course, there will be people who are fearful of that because they do not understand it.”
